REVIEW: Human Nature Nourishing Face Toner - Tomato Extract

Posted by Mauve Avenger at 2:29 AM 1 comments

Another Human Nature product to try and review! I’m still in search for my HG(holy grail) toner. Avalon's toner is quite good already. Would love to buy again but I still like to try out new stuff to see if something is better.

I take pictures of the claims and ingredients printed on the bottle so I would not need to type it. Since the bottle is rounder, all of the text can’t be captured. Be grateful that I’ve typed those! Haha!

What it claims:

Hate the sting when you apply your toner? Alcohol-based toners tend to do that… and they even dry up your skin, making it prone to premature aging! Our Nourishing Face Toner is gentle and refreshing, and it gives your skin the nourishment it needs. Packed with tomato extract, it doesn’t just help prevent skin damage cause by free radicals, it preps your skin for what should come next – moisturizing! The end result? Nothing but fresh, soft and breathtakingly smooth skin!

Ingredients:

aqua, glycerin, betaine (sugar beet derived), glyceryl caprylate (coconut oil, palm and glycerine derived), Chamomilla recutita (chamomile) flower/leaf extract, Rosmarinus offinalis (rosemary) extract, Lavandula angustifolia (lavander) extract, Solanum lycopersicum (tomato) extract, fragrance (all natural), menthyl lactate (vegetable derived

Tomatoes are believed to be good for your face because of its lycopene content which is an antioxidant. I’ve read somewhere it’s good for dull skin that’s why I really wanted to try this. On a side note, I truly want to try Yes to Tomatoes brand also! But that’s another story.

This does not contain alcohol, parabens, SLS/SLES, formaldehyde and phthalates.

Packaging:

Simple bottle. Nothing fancy and doesn’t leak and I can see the product left. Expiration is also indicated on the bottle.

Smell:

I can instantly take the herbal smell of the Human Nature Balancing Facial Wash, but this one has to take a while. It smells like fruity vitamin syrup from my childhood which I’m not really fond of. But the smell doesn’t last long so I got used to it eventually.

Performance:

Alcohol-free toners tend to be sticky on the face. This doesn’t do that! I love how it feels on my face! It makes my face fresh and sort of dewy without the stickiness! It is formulated for normal or sensitive skin. Maybe that’s why it feels light on my face. It removes dirt which your facial wash wasn’t able to get rid of without being harsh on your skin. No break outs experienced.

Price:

This cost 99php (100ml) from Shopwise. Fair enough for a natural product. Definitely cheaper than other organic toners I’ve seen on the market... maybe because it’s made locally. You could also buy this from Beauty Bar, Landmark and from their authorized resellers.

Would I buy again and recommend it?

Yes, I would. Aside from the smell, I’d really say it’s an HG material. But I would still want to try their other toners before I could decide on what my staple toner would be. Though it’s for sensitive/normal skin, I think this would do well for all skin types.

Have you tried Human Nature Nourishing Face Toner with Tomato Extract? What other natural/organic toner would you recommend me to try? Please post your suggestions or experiences below!

REVIEW: Human Nature Balancing Facial Wash - Elemi & Orange

Posted by Mauve Avenger at 10:05 PM 1 comments

On my search for natural products, this brand immediately showed up on the web. It was pleasant to know that it wasn’t expensive as other natural products in the market. And hey! It’s from my motherland Philippines! Human Nature is a Pro-Philippines, Pro-Poor and Pro-Environment company. The raw materials they use are available locally so they won’t need to source it abroad. This helps our local farmers and our country’s economy. They make sure that their products are of good quality and don’t harm our environment. PETA awarded this brand “Cruelty-Free Company" certificate because they’re against animal testing.

This facial wash is one of the first products from the brand I’ve bought to try. I was still digging the citrus goodness from Avalon Organics that’s why I got this one. It has orange in it somehow. XD

What it claims:

Ingredients:

This boasts that its free from said harmful chemicals such as parabens, phthalates, SLS/SLES and synthetic fragrances.

Packaging:

It’s in a basic clear plastic bottle so you could already see how the product itself looks (bamboo scrubs!) and how much of it is left. This bottle is said to be environment-friendly. It’s a PET bottle, the most recycled kind of plastic. I saw on their website that you could return the empty bottles to them and they’ll sell it to help support communities. Expiration date is indicated on the bottle.

Smell:

This doesn’t smell like those of Avalon Organics’ Vit C range where fresh orange is more pronounced. The smell has hint of herbs like most organic products but with lesser intensity. Mind you, this was one of the very few facial washes I could stand to use when I had a weird-sensitive-nose phase.

Performance:

Look at those green and white scrubs! Seems scary but it's not! It's gentle.
This is targeted for people with oily or combination skin. Most of the products addressing the oily problem are overly drying making our skin oilier! Eew! Well, not with this one! I like it because it definitely does its job on cleaning my face minus the tight feeling after washing.

I like the sort of gel consistency. I shake it before usage because the scrub particles get to the bottom part of the bottle. The scrubby stuff is okay. It’s not as harsh as St. Ives scrubs I’ve tried. You just use facial scrubs two to three times a week. But for this product, they say this is safe for everyday use that’s why I use it every night. I use a different cleanser in the morning.

I noticed that my skin is softer and smoother after every wash. I think it kinda helped on making my comedones less visible.

Price:
I got this for 199.75PHP (200ml) from Shopwise. They also have trial size for 79.75php (50ml). It is also available in Beauty Bar, Landmark and from authorized dealers.

Would I still buy and recommend it?
Yes, especially for those with oily or combination skin. I think it’s a cheap yet effective product for a natural facial wash.

See you in my next post lovelies!

REVIEW: Neutrogena Hydroboost Gel SPF30 PA++

Posted by Mauve Avenger at 10:21 PM 1 comments
The last day cream I used, which I borrowed from my mom, clogged my pores badly. I never experienced that so I guess it would be okay to panic, right? So I went ahead and looked for a new moisturizer with sun protection. Neutrogena Hydroboost Gel with SPF seems fit for the job.

What it claims:

Ingredients:

Hyaluronic acid is known for its moisturizing benefits on skin. This is not advertised as an anti-aging product but HA is said to be helpful in reducing or removing wrinkles making your skin younger, smooth and supple.

Packaging:

It comes in a simple yet elegant double-wall pump dispenser which is hygienic. I’m really a sucker for double-wall packaging (glasses, mugs, tumblers). XD Back to the moisturizer, the pump let’s you control the amount of product you’ll use. I need to hold this against the light to determine how much product is left. Expiration date is clearly indicated on the box. (Sorry for the picture above. The box was left for months in a moist environment that’s why the print is already blurred when I took a photo.)

Smell:

It has a nice and clean scent which is not overpowering.

Performance:

swatched and not fully blended

It’s water-based making it very easy to spread. It only takes one pump to cover my face and neck. It lives up to its promise to moisturize me well.

What really sold me to buy this is the sun protection it gives sans the white cast in flash photography. It is common for cream/moisturizers with SPF to give a ghostly white look on pictures. Yikes!

I’m quite picky with the sun protection a product provides. I’m much comfortable seeing SPF30 or higher (UVB protection) and the PA (UVA protection) value of a sunscreen. The ‘broad spectrum’ claim (FDA approved) seems indefinite on my part. That’s just me. I’m really glad the PA value was indicated in this product.

I also like the smooth finish when I use this under loose powder. My skin looks healthy and glowing, not to mention less oily. This could mean that my skin is properly hydrated because it doesn’t need to cope up with the lost moisture by producing more oil than it should.

Not so good with this thing is it takes forever to set in. I don’t have much time to let it sink in my skin so I never really knew how long it will take for it to get absorbed.

Price:

I bought it from Watsons for 830Php(40ml). I won’t complain because I got the minimum SPF and PA that I wanted. Haha!

Would I buy again and recommend it?

Yes, unless I find the product I’m eyeing for quite some time to be better than this. Neutrogena Hydroboost Gel SPF30 is a good choice for a good sunscreen and moisturizer in one bottle which means lesser prep time for us ladies! I recommend that you try this product because gel/water based formulas cater to most skin types.

REVIEW: Avalon Organics Vitamin C Balancing Facial Toner

Posted by Mauve Avenger at 6:01 PM 4 comments

I've been trying to go natural on the products that I use for my skincare. It would not harm if I'd lessen the chemicals I slab on my face, right?

I came across this brand through my boyfriend. He is using the cleanser of the Vitamin C skincare range. Since I'm looking for a good toner that's natural and I believe in the power of Vit C, I'll have to try their toner at once! But it’s hard to get this product at that time. It’s always out of stock! But before 2012 ended, they've already restocked. Good!

What it claims:

Ingredients:

Most of the ingredients are organic. It doesn’t contain parabens and SLS. Some people try to avoid it due to its controversial role in developing cancer and it's said to be a skin irritant.

Packaging:

It’s my first time to encounter this type of cap on a toner. It kinda leaks when not upright making it not so travel-friendly. You have to hold the product against the light to see how much product is left. I can’t find the expiration date or manufacturing date of the product. Can anyone tell me where it is?

Smell:

The smell resembles fresh peeled citrus fruit like oranges. I like bringing this when I’m going to trips. The smell makes me less nauseated. :) I look forward on toning because of its smell.

useless photo of the pale orange color
of the toner on cotton before and after use
not much dirt, eh?

Performance:

I’ve used this for over a month (twice a day). It makes my face a bit moisturized and dewy. Be careful not to pour too much product. It would feel sticky on your face, of course. I did not break out from this. I noticed that it’s really gentle. When I used it over the pimple I pricked (don’t do this!), it did not hurt! I think it also helped in healing and making the pimple gone fast because of the salicylic acid content.

Price:

I bought it for 375PHP from Healthy Options. It is a bit expensive for a toner. Coming from an organic brand, it is expected. But hey, that’s 250ml which is already a lot and will last for months.

Would I still buy and recommend it?

I’m satisfied with the product but I’ll have to pass for now. I’ll be looking for a less expensive option that’s gentle and effective like this toner. I’d recommend this to people with dry to normal skin type as this may be too moisturizing for people with oily or combination skin.

Have you tried using this toner? How was your experience? Comment below!
